Title: Early detection of Alzheimer’s disease: interindividual variability in cognitive and brain aging

Abstract
Efficient and accurate prediction of Alzheimer’s disease in the preclinical stage is important for individual, family, social, and medical reasons. This presentation selectively highlights our recent findings on the importance of considering interindividual differences in investigating issues concerning early detection for dementia at-risk individuals. Available evidence also suggests that both nature and nurture factors need to be considered in order to better characterize individual difference in older adults in the context of early detection of dementia. The essential role of a sound neuropsychological approach is highlighted for better characterizations of the heterogeneity in cognition abilities among people at high risk for developing dementia, and that may in turn lead to more convincing associations with biomarkers, as well as improvement of predictive ability for dementia progression.
